BANDARBAN, Feb 7, 2023 (BSS) - Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today detained five militants while exchanging fire with new terrorist group 'Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya' from Remakri bridge under  Thanchi upazila in the district.

Nine members of RAB sustained injuries in the incident.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General M Khurshid Hossain revealed the information in a press conference at Toma Tungi under Thanchi area this afternoon.

Getting information that the members of the terrorist group will cross Remakri bridge in the morning today, six patrol teams of RAB took positions in different areas near Remakri bridge, he said.
 
He said militants exchanged fires with RAB members while crossing the bridge in the morning.

"We detained five unwounded members of the terrorist group during the drive. But nine members of RAB sustained injuries," he said.
 
The RAB DG said hill terrorist group Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF) is giving support to such terrorist groups like 'Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya'.

 "We are also arresting them (KNF members)," he said.

Khurshid Hossain said 38 militants and 14 members of KNF organization have been detained since October last in the RAB operation and they have been brought to justice.

He said operation will be continued until elimination of terrorists and militants from the country.
