Bangabandhu Public University, Naogaon, Bill-2023 passed in Parliament

 
DHAKA, Feb 7, 2023 (BSS) - Bangabandhu Public University, Naogaon,Bill-2023 was passed in the Jatiya Sangsad in line with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's promise to establish a full-fledged public university in the district.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Tuesday moved the bill in the House which was unanimously passed by voice votes with Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

Demanding more government allocation for the education sector, Jatiya Party lawmaker Shameem Haider Patwary of Gaibandha-1 said the government should increase the budget allocation for the education sector. He said budget for the education sector should be increased up to six percent.

Gonoforum lawmaker Mukabbir Khan of Sylhet-2, Jatiya Party lawmakers Kazi Feroz Rashid of Dhaka-6, Rowshan Ara Mannan of Women seat-47, individual lawmaker Rezaul Karim Bablu of Bogura-7, also took part in the discussion on the bill. 

While placing the bill, the education minister said "Our attempt is to create job oriented education curriculum as per the growing demand of job market." 

The Cabinet, earlier, approved the draft law to set up Bangabandhu Public University in Naogaon.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"The proposed university would be a prototype of other public universities," said Cabinet Secretary while briefing reporters after the meeting.

He said the Cabinet gave the final approval to the drafts of Naogaon Act, 2022' on the condition for vetting the draft laws.
