DHAKA, Feb 5, 2023 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has said the arsenic outbreak is now declining in the country as only 65,910 people are now affected with arsenic contamination.
 
“The data has been revealed based on the ‘khana’ investigation in 2012”, said the minister while responding to a query placed by Mamunur Rashid of Noakhali-3 at the Jatiya Sangsad here.
 
Massive awareness programmes have been carried out among the people and people are now being conscious and that’s why people are drinking arsenic free safe water, much to reduce the number of arsenic-affected patients in the country, said the minister.
 
Noting that the government is sincere for treatment of the arsenic patients, Maleque said the government has ensured cost-effective treatment of the arsenic patients by distributing multi-vitamin drugs, vitamin-A capsule, anti-oxidant and salicylate cream.
