DHAKA, Feb 1, 2023 (BSS) - The Department of Environment (DoE) today
conducted special drives at five places in and around Dhaka to check air
pollution.
During the drives, 26 vehicles were fined Taka 85,000 while 10 institutions
Taka 3.6 lakh on charges of polluting environment.
As part of anti-pollution campaign, the monitoring and enforcement wing of
the DoE conducted the drives in Dhaka expressway and bypass areas, Savar,
Manik Mia Avenue, Khilkhet and Aftabnagar areas with support from Dhaka
Metropolitan Office, Dhaka District Office, Gazipur District Office and Dhaka
District Administration.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Shahab Uddin visited the
drives in Manik Mia Avenue, Khilkhet and Aftabnagar areas.
Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar,
Environment Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed and DoE Director General Dr Abdul
Hamid were also present on the occasion.
Talking to reporters, Shahab Uddin said the government will do everything
necessary to check air pollution.
"All possible efforts will be made to ensure that people can live in a
healthy environment," he said, adding that the government is giving
importance to public awareness.
"At the same time, the government will continue to take strict legal action
against air polluters," the minister said.
