DHAKA, Jan 26, 2023 (BSS) – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said that law enforcers will work to ensure holding the national election in a free, fair and acceptable manner.
“Our law enforcement members are now capable of facing any challenge. They have experiences, skills and patriotism. They will work in light of the skills and experiences as required during the national elections,” he told journalists after a meeting with deputy commissioners (DCs) on the sixth working day of the DCs conference.
The minister said that people want a fair, acceptable and impartial election, while the entire world is also looking at Bangladesh too. “We have told that your (DC) role will be important in the election,” Kamal said.
“We will have nothing to do during the election period except routine work, while the Election Commission (EC) will play the main role,” he said.
The minister said the law enforcement agencies, including the BGB, police, RAB and Ansar will perform their duties according to the EC instructions.
Asking the DCs to take stern measures against drugs and drugs trading across the country, he said that combating drug abuse is a challenge.
“We are working in three ways to tackle the drug challenge. First is to reduce drug demand, in which DCs have many roles. DCs would work by engaging public representatives in different anti-drug awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, mosques and madrasas to reduce demand,” the minister added.
He said, “If we did not perform this, our dream of 2030 and 2041 may remain incomplete. We have adopted zero tolerance policy against drugs. We are going to modernize our prisons and have already moved into a modern world of passport immigration.”
