Govt attaches priority to technical, vocational educations for skilled workforces

 RAJSHAHI, Jan 20, 2023 (BSS)- The present government under the prudent and farsighted leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has attached priority to the technical and vocational educations for boosting the number of competent workforces.

The government has been expanding technical institutions to the grassroots level aimed at transforming the youths living in villages into competent workforce through bringing them under the need-based technical and vocational educations.
 
High officials and technical academics came up with the observation while addressing a seminar titled "Raising Mass-awareness on Technical Education: Boosting Linkage between Industry and Institute".
 
Rajshahi Mohila Polytechnic Institute (RMPI) organized the seminar to mark the daylong 'Campus Open Day' on its campus here on Thursday.

Community engagement, colourful rally, job fair, skills projection and seminar were the main features of the day.

In the job fair, eight graduates got jobs, while eight others were given assurance by 19 job providing entities attended in there.

Earlier, a colourful rally with participation of around 1,000 students was brought out from the RMPI premises and ended at the same place after parading main thoroughfares of the city to mark the ceremony.

Commissioner of Rajshahi division GSM Zafarullah, Director General of the Directorate of Technical Education Dr Omor Faruque, Additional Deputy Commissioner Joya Maria Perera and President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries Masudur Rahman addressed the daylong events with RMPI Principal Omor Faruque in the chair.

Commissioner Zafarullah viewed technical education as the best way of building competent and skilled human resources. It would be vital for substantial and sustainable growth of the national economy.

He told the meeting that the government has taken the decision of implementing a Taka 20,000-crore project for establishing technical school and college in all upazilas, polytechnic institutes in districts and high standard technical institutions in divisional towns.

 
Dr Omor Faruque said need-based vocational training for the female youths of poor families is very important. At the same time, post-training employment can eradicate the unemployment problem.

"We have no way but to generate more technically and technologically sound women to meet up the social demands as it is being increased gradually," he mentioned.

The entrepreneurs should come forward towards establishing small and medium industries in the region to create employment opportunities for regional development, he added.

Dr Faruque called upon the women to come forward to partake in technical and vocational education without any hesitation for taking the country forward.

He said technical and vocational education and training among the women is critically important for achieving national development.

Faruque underscored the need for quality improvement of training for substantial and sustainable boosting the number of women entrepreneurship.
