TUNGIPARA, Gopalganj, Jan 17, 2023 (BSS) - Bangabandhu Parishad acting President Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique today inaugurated blanket distribution programme here commemorating Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his close political associate SA Malek.

After opening the programme at the upazila parishad auditorium, Prof Arefin, also chairman of the board of directors of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), distributed blankets among 1,000 destitute people of five union parishads and a municipality of the upazila.

In a brief speech, Dr Arefin Siddique, also the former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, said the countrymen needs to follow the ideology and philosophy of Bangabandhu. The Father of the Nation had a dream to build a non-communal Bangladesh, he said and urged the people to work together to fulfill that dream of Bangabandhu.   

Bangabandhu Parishad Presidium Member and Chief Patron of Bangladesh Association of Psychiatrists (BAP) Dr Md Abdul Wadood and General Secretary Professor ABM Faroque, BAP General Secretary Professor Dr Shamsuddin Ilias, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Assistant Professor Dr Shaikh Abdullah Al Mamun and philanthropist Matiur Rahman Laltu were present at the function, among others.

Earlier, Prof Arefin paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing floral wreaths at his mausoleum here. After placing the wreath, he offered fateha and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his family members.

Later, Prof Arefin went around the Samadhi Soudha Complex of the Father of the Nation.
