DHAKA, Jan 10, 2023 (BSS) - Mujibnagar University, Meherpur Bill-2023 was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad today and this will be the 53rd university in the country.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni placed the bill in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
The bill has been proposed to recall the supreme sacrifice of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for making the country an independent nation, said the minster while placing the bill.
The President will be the Chancellor of the varsity and that he will appoint a Vice Chancellor from among the faculty members for a period of four years. However, no one will be allowed to work as VC for more than two terms.
A special thing has been done in this new public university law--- Business incubation and professional courses, said cabinet secretary after approving the draft of the act earlier.
The University may, if necessary, establish a Business Incubator with the approval of the Chancellor as an integrated institution to develop the graduates as entrepreneurs and to provide them with technical and other support.
He said since students will turn into entrepreneurs here, this model could be replicated in other tertiary educational institutions.
He said the varsity will offer professional courses for the people who have finished graduation but need to develop expertise in other disciplines.
"Anyone from outside can come here to do these courses including some diplomas," he said.
After placing of the proposed bill, Dr Dipu Moni proposed to send the bill to the parliamentary standing committee on the respective ministry for scrutiny and submit it before the House within 30 days.
