DHAKA, Jan 7, 2023 (BSS) - Five members of a family, including a child, suffered burn injuries due to a gas-cylinder leakage explosion in their house in Islampur area in Dhamrai upazila in the district in the early hours of today.

The injured were identified as garment worker Manjurul Islam, 35, his wife Josna Akhtar, 25, Sadia Akhtar, 19, Hosne Ara, 20 and Mariam, 2.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Police Camp's ASI Mohammad Masud Miah confirmed the matter to BSS saying that the sudden gas explosion took place in a house on the ground floor of a two-storey building adjacent to Islampur Kumrail graveyard around 5am while Josna Akhtar went to kitchen to light up the stove.

All victims were taken to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (SHNIBPS), he said.

However, the condition of three among the burn-victims is said to be critical, he added.

Resident Surgeon of Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute Dr SM Aiyub Hossain said that Manjurul sustained 33 percent burn injuries while his wife Josna received 40 percent.

Sadia received 75 percent burn injuries while Hosne Ara and Mariam sustained 25 and 15 percent burn injuries respectively, he added.
