DHAKA, Jan 5, 2023 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today ordered Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) chairman to submit an explanation about the alleged embezzlement of imported chemical fertilizer worth Taka 582 crore.

A High Court division bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order in suo moto, taking into consideration newspaper reports over the matter.

The court asked the BCIC chairman to submit his explanation by January 20. It also issued a rule asking authorities concerned as to why the court shall not declare their inaction in taking decision against the accused, illegal.

Apart from these, the High Court asked Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to probe the allegations and submit its report within next 60 days.

According to the reports, Poton Traders, a contracting firm designated for carrying to said fertilizer from port to the warehouses, embezzled the fertilizer, causing a loss of Taka 582 crore to the state.
