DHAKA, July 19, 2026 (BSS) - The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has filed its draft probe report in a case over the May 5, 2013, crackdown on a Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh rally at the capital's Shapla Chattar, accusing ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and others of responsibility for the deaths of around 60 people across the country.
Confirming the development to reporters, ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam said the report will now undergo a final review and verification to ensure a transparent trial based on a sound investigation report.
"The draft report named deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, the former inspector general of police, the former director general of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and several others as accuse,” the chief prosecutor told a press briefing at his office this afternoon.
“We are now scrutinising the report. The list of accused may be revised, with names added or dropped, after the verification process is completed. The actual perpetrators should be brought to justice,” he added.
Md Aminul Islam said they had received a list of 61 victims of the government crackdown carried out in connection with the Hefazat-e-Islam rally across the country and the tribunal's investigation agency has so far identified 58 of them.
"Today, we reviewed the draft report with the top leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam. We hope to receive the full report soon," he added.
Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer of Hefazat-e-Islam Abdul Hamid, Maulana Mamunul Haque, Mufti Harun Izhar, Mufti Mir Idris and many other leaders of the organisation were present at the press briefing.
