DHAKA, July 18, 2026 (BSS)- Prime Minister's Office (PMO) Spokesperson Mahadi Amin today said the government has achieved unprecedented multidimensional achievements during its first five months in office, successfully addressing critical crises while steering the nation toward a humane, discrimination-free, and democratic future.
“The government has sent a strong message of good governance by controlling commodity prices, restoring discipline in the financial sector, giving efforts to recovering laundered money and ensuring cost-effective and corruption-free reviews of various projects,” he said.
Mahdi, also an adviser to the Prime Minister, made the remarks while addressing a press conference organised by Prime Minister’s Press Wing at the 'Karobi' Hall of the PMO in the city’s Tejgaon area this afternoon on the occasion of the completion of five months of the government.
Mahdi said, “We have witnessed visible successes in every ministry in the past five months.”
“These successes can be grouped into five major achievements—earning people's trust, love and support, protecting the interests of people from all walks of life in line with the election manifesto, remarkable success in tackling challenges in the short time, giving the highest priority to the people's freedom and the country's sovereignty and finally, the Prime Minister's statesmanlike leadership for the masses,” he added.
Mahdi said these achievements have opened a new horizon in the country's political history while paving the way for building a humane, discrimination-free, safe, merit-based, prosperous and self-reliant Bangladesh.
After assuming office through the direct votes of the people, he said, the government placed the highest priority on rebuilding democratic institutions and maintaining economic stability.
The government has sent a strong message of good governance by controlling commodity prices, restoring discipline in the financial sector and ensuring cost-effective and corruption-free reviews of various projects,” he said, adding that rehabilitation of recent flood victims and rebuilding the devastated health and education sectors are also underway.
Mahdi said, “Based on the achievements of the past five months, the government remains fully committed to building an inclusive, discrimination-free and prosperous Bangladesh.”

Mahdi then highlighted the government achievements in the last five months saying the verdict in the rape and murder case of child Ramisa was delivered within 19 days while the verdict in the Meherpur child rape case was delivered within 29 working days, setting a record of speedy justice.
In just one month, he said, 10 verdicts were announced after hearing death references and appeals on priority basis in the cases under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Mahdi said Mozaffar Hossain, the killer of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, was arrested from the city after he had remained absconding for 45 years. Mozaffar is currently in military custody, which Mahdi described as an unprecedented success of the intelligence agencies.
Accused of much-discussed Tonu murder case were arrested while accused of Sharif Osman Hadi murder case were arrested from neighboring country. Now steps have been taken to bring them home, the PMO spokesperson said.
He said former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed was also arrested in Dubai with the help of Interpol and necessary formalities are underway to bring him back to the country.
The parliament passed a law granting indemnity to July Fighters and the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Act incorporating provisions to ban the activities of political parties or organisations under the law and taking institutional and political decisions regarding the Awami League, he said.
The extradition process with the Indian government is underway to bring back Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina, who was convicted in court, Mahdi said.
He said monthly charge imposed on prepaid electricity meters was withdrawn immediately to provide financial relief to the people.
Rural healthcare system has been strengthened by upgrading upazila hospitals to 101-bed, he said, adding, health units will be established in every union and every urban ward, where primary treatment will be available.
ICU facilities, emergency, indoor and outdoor services and modern pathology services will be available at the upazila hospitals, he also said.
A total of 94 public interest and state reform-related bills were passed within the first 25 working days of parliament, thereby making the ordinances issued by the interim government into law, Mahdi added.
A nationwide programme was launched to plant 25 crore trees over the next five years for environmental protection, he said, adding, the government has announced to introduce 250 modern environmentally friendly electric buses to reduce pollution in Dhaka.
To modernize traffic management in Dhaka city, AI or artificial intelligence technology has been introduced in most important areas, the PMO spokesperson said, adding, an automatic cargo release system has been introduced at Chittagong Port and four inter-district bus terminals have been ordered to be shifted outside the capital to ease traffic congestion in Dhaka.
As a result of well-planned economic management, inflation has decreased to 8.71 percent and foreign exchange reserves are currently at US$36.58 billion, he said.
Foreign remittances are increasing, reaching the highest level in Bangladesh's history, Mahdi said, adding, a record US$3.75 billion in remittances received in March, reflecting expatriates' confidence.
Noting that overseas manpower exports began during the tenure of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, he said the government is going to introduce ‘Probashi Card’ keeping that in mind.

The PMO Spokesperson also highlighted a series of government initiatives which include launching Family Cards, Farmer Cards and Sports Cards in line with the election pledges, declaring 2026-27 as the ‘Nazrul Year’, banning the use of the PM’s photograph on banners and festoons at government programmes, organizing Primary Gold Cup Football Tournament involving 22 Lakh students from Classes-I to Class-V, arranging Start-up and Idea Competitions for students from Classes VI to XII, and an increase in both the number and amount of scholarships at all levels for students.
He said, “To safeguard national sovereignty, the Prime Minister has been participating in every Bangladesh Army exercise whenever possible, visiting army camps to share meals with soldiers, and working to boost the morale of the armed forces.”
Mahadi Amin said, “By renouncing a life of luxury, the hon'ble Prime Minister has set a unique, people-oriented and compassionate example in state governance, earning the deep trust and confidence of the country's people.
“Every step he (Prime Minister) has taken—whether standing beside people affected by disasters or leading a simple life without protocol—has demonstrated that he represents people of every class, profession, religion, caste and ethnic community. He is the Prime Minister of the masses,” he added.
Mahdi said, “By continuing this path of humanity and justice, the hon'ble Prime Minister's exceptional statesmanlike leadership in advancing towards a discrimination-free, modern and prosperous Bangladesh will be remembered in the country's history for a long time.”
Terming the government’s 150 days in office as foundation laying period of a democratic country, the PMO Spokesperson said, “Starting from the ruins of a devastated system and accomplishing such an enormous volume of work in just five months is possible only when a government enjoys the unwavering support and confidence of the people.
“Hon'ble Tarique Rahman has always believed that the aspirations and expectations of the people must be reflected in the governance of the state,” he said.
Mahdi said the government, in the past 150 days, has not only addressed existing problems but has also laid a strong foundation for a discrimination-free, democratic and prosperous Bangladesh.
“In the days ahead, we wish to continue working with the same unwavering enthusiasm, patriotism and sense of responsibility, InSha'Allah. That is why the Prime Minister says: 'We will work, we will build the nation; Bangladesh first,” he added.
