DHAKA, July 12, 2026 (BSS) – The four new textbooks being developed for the next academic year reflect Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's long-term vision, ideas, experience and efforts for reforming the country's education system, said Prime Minister's Adviser on Education and Primary and Mass Education Dr Mahdi Amin today.

He made the remarks while speaking as a special guest at the inaugural session of a workshop titled "Finalisation of the Framework of Four New Textbooks for Primary and Secondary Levels for the 2027 Academic Year" at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium here.

National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Chairman Professor Mohammad Fakhrul Maola chaired the event, where Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon attended as the chief guest.

State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmud Khayem, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Badiul Alam Bobi Hajjaj and State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque were present as special guests.

Dr Mahdi Amin said the Prime Minister has been working relentlessly to improve the education system and his educational vision was also reflected in the election manifesto. The new textbooks are being developed in line with that vision, he added.

He particularly stressed making the books on "Learning with Happiness", sports and culture more innovative and distinctive than conventional textbooks.

Highlighting the need to make textbooks more attractive to students, the adviser said existing books are often heavily text-based.

He suggested incorporating more visual elements, including photographs, tables, diagrams and illustrations, into the "Learning with Happiness" textbook so that students can learn in an enjoyable manner.

He also recommended adding a detailed introductory chapter and practical applications of the philosophical foundations of the book.

About overcoming social reluctance towards technical education, Dr Mahdi Amin said many talented students are still unwilling to pursue technical education, although every student should acquire at least basic technical skills.

He said laboratory facilities would be ensured in educational institutions and motivational background chapters would be included in textbooks to encourage students towards technical education.

Referring to errors and distortions of history in textbooks during the previous government’s tenure, Dr Amin said the government’s objective is to ensure an objective presentation of history.

"We do not need to rewrite history according to our own preferences. What emerges from impartial analysis and factual truth will be reflected in textbooks," he said, adding that the revision process would continue.

The adviser said the government is working to ensure that textbooks reach all students by January 1 next.

As distribution requires nearly a month, around 31 crore textbooks must be printed, published and kept ready by mid-November, he added.

Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleque, secretaries of different ministries, NCTB officials and education experts attended the programme.
