LALMONIRHAT, July 4, 2026 (BSS) - LGRD and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said various social problems can be effectively prevented by increasing public awareness.

"The 'Alokita Lalmonirhat' is a social movement, the main aim of which is to create public awareness against social diseases like drugs, child marriage, dowry, mobile addiction and online gambling," he said.

He said this at a programme titled 'Alokita Lalmonirhat: Our Commitment' at the MT Hossain Institute Ground in Lalmonirhat district town as the chief guest, said a press note issued by the Rangpur Regional PID Office.

Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Rashedul Haque Pradhan chaired the event.

Mirza Fakhrul said that if the dream of 'Alokita Lalmonirhat' can be implemented across the country, then it will be possible to build an enlightened Bangladesh.

He said, "Such social movements will play an important role in protecting the youth from the invasion of drugs. To save the country from the curse of drugs, people from all walks of life must work together in unity along with government initiatives."

Highlighting the government's development activities, he said that the present government is successfully implementing various public welfare programmes including family card distribution, canal digging, agricultural card distribution and women empowerment.

These initiatives are playing an important role in the overall development of the country and improving the quality of life of the people.

Speaking as the main discussant at the event, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Principal Asadul Habib Dulu said, "A social movement should be built by involving people from all walks of life to eliminate various social ills including dowry, mobile addiction, drugs and casinos."

"If the 'Alokita Lalmonirhat' movement is successful, it will be possible to build a beautiful, conscious and enlightened Lalmonirhat," he said.

He said that the future of the country depends on the youth. But since Lalmonirhat is a border district, drug trade, transportation and consumption are relatively easy in the district where many young people are being affected by drug addiction.

To overcome this situation, people from all walks of life and professions will have to work together.

Regarding the prevention of child marriage, Asadul Habib Dulu gave a stern warning and said that if a girl under the age of 18 is registered for marriage, legal action will be taken against the person concerned.

He further said that various committees have already been formed to prevent social crimes.

"However, it is not enough to just enforce the law; public awareness must be created to eradicate injustice, irregularities and crime from the society," he said.
