DHAKA, June 16, 2026 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain today said the Ad-din Hospital authorities are going to face punishment in the case of six newborn deaths.

"No one will get spared by ignoring the government's instructions and laws. Strict action will be taken against those involved in irregularities and negligence," he warned.

The health minister came up with the warning while speaking at the inauguration of the Measles Treatment Protocol Clinical Management Guidelines at the Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital here this morning.

He said a safe medical environment was not ensured for newborns and children at Ad-din Hospital, where there was no ventilation system for oxygen flow.

Even though the newborns had difficulty in breathing, no doctor was on duty at the time, he said, adding nurses did not respond even when they were called.

Sakhawat Husain said it is the government's responsibility to take action against the hospital where six newborns died in a short period of time.

The decision to revoke the license of Ad-din Hospital is not wrong in any way, he said.

He said necessary changes will be brought to remove the irregularities and accountability crisis that has been prevailing in the health sector for a long time.

The health minister expressed his dissatisfaction over the lack of improvement in the quality of patient services in the healthcare sector.

He said the government has been able to build a strong wall against measles with the cooperation of doctors and nurses.

Sakhawat Husain called upon all doctors to work with dedication to ensure healthcare for all.

Presided over by Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Principal Professor Dr KM Mozibul Haque, the event was attended, among others, by Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) President Professor Dr. Harun Al Rashid, its Secretary General Dr Zahirul Islam Shakil, acting Director of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital Professor Dr Shaheen Rahman Chowdhury and the college's vice-principal Professor Dr Meherun Nesa.

Dr. Farhana Haque, assistant professor of the Department of Community Medicine at Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College, made a presentation on the hospital.
