COX’S BAZAR, June 12, 2026 (BSS) – Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said the government led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced a pro-people budget as it is aligned with public expectations.

Terming the proposed budget an important achievement of the BNP government, Salahuddin Ahmed said the present government has placed a full-fledged budget within only three and a half months, taking into account the realities of the damaged economic and banking sector over the last 17 years.

“The proposed budget is pro-people but not bank-oriented. Those who are calling it a politicised budget are ultimately making illogical and undesirable remarks,” he said.

The home minister made the remarks while speaking to journalists after inspecting the venues designated for the Prime Minister’s visit, the meeting stage, administrative preparations and the overall law and order situation in Chokoria today.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to visit Cox’s Bazar tomorrow, and the home minister reached Cox’s Bazar today to oversee the overall preparations for the visit and security arrangements.

He said the proposed budget has taken initiatives to reduce the prices of daily commodities, which were not taken for the BNP alone but to fulfil the long-standing expectations of people, including lower- and middle-income groups at the grassroots level.

“People want essential commodity prices to remain at a tolerable level, and that is why this budget has been presented considering that reality,” he told journalists.

In addition, the minister said the proposed budget has placed importance on employment generation, creating new entrepreneurs and ensuring necessary facilities to meet the demands of the young generation in line with the commitment of the present government.

The proposed budget has taken initiatives to reduce the tax burden on people and planned to increase revenue collection by expanding the revenue base, he added.
