DHAKA, May 23, 2026 (BSS) – The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today recommended in principle a proposal for procuring Vitamin A capsules (200,000 IU and 100,000 IU) through direct procurement method (DPM) from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to ensure uninterrupted supply across the country.
The recommendation came at the 15th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in this year held today at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.
The proposal, submitted by the Health Services Division, sought policy approval for the direct procurement of Vitamin A capsules through UNICEF to maintain uninterrupted supply of the essential supplements.
The committee recommended the proposal for policy approval.
In another proposal, submitted by the Ministry of Shipping, the committee recommended policy approval for post-facto appointment of the existing contractor under the direct procurement method for operating the New Mooring Container Terminal, including the overflow yard, of the Chittagong Port Authority.
The proposal stated that as the agreement period signed with Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL) had expired, the current contractor would continue operations for the next six months or until a new contractor is appointed, whichever comes earlier, under the same rates and conditions.
