SYLHET, May 2, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today launched the nationwide talent hunt programme titled 'Notun Kuri Sports', aimed at discovering sporting talent among children and adolescents across the country.
The premier formally inaugurated the programme around 5pm at a function at Sylhet Stadium in Rikabi Bazar area here by pressing a button and unveiling the trophy and the logo of the event in the presence of children and teenagers.
The programme has been launched with the theme 'Krira Hole Pesha, Paribar Pabe Bhorosa (If sports become a profession, the family will find hope)'.

Apart from children and adolescents present in the Sylhet Stadium, young athletes from district stadiums across the country were also virtually connected to the inaugural ceremony.
With this inauguration, the 'Notun Kuri Sports' programme officially began its journey to explore sporting talent among children and adolescents across the country up to grassroots level.
In continuation of the popular talent hunting programme 'Notun Kuri' of the 1980s, the government launched the programme as per ruling party's election pledges to find promising athletes from the ward level of union and city corporation and develop them as skilled sportspersons.
The main goal of this programme is to identify and select the talented children aged 12 to 14 and support them from the state level to flourish their hidden sports talents.
The programme is being implemented by the Sports Directorate under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque was present on the occasion, among others.
