BOGURA, April 20, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today said the construction work of the long-cherished Bogura-Sirajganj railway line will begin soon.
"The railway line from Sirajganj to Bogura is one of the main demands of the people of Bogura. This work will begin soon," he said while addressing a public rally organized by the BNP Bogura District unit at Altafunnesa ground here this afternoon.
Prime Minister's wife Dr Zubaida Rahman was on the stage on the occasion, among others.
Noting that Bogura and many of its surrounding areas are agricultural regions, Tarique Rahman said, "We want our agricultural products to be available in the country as well as exported abroad".
Therefore, he promised to upgrade Bogura Airport for cargo flights to export local agricultural products, saying he has already started work to this end.
The Prime Minister also said that he would soon start work on how the agricultural engineering department can be introduced in the Bogura University.
Simultaneously, he assured that the newly declared Bogura City Corporation would be developed into a planned and aesthetic city.
Highlighting the steps taken by the government to change the fate of the people, Tarique Rahman said that BNP has started gradually implementing each of the promises given to the people before the elections.
He said the government has already introduced the Family Card, Farmer Card and honorariums for imams and muezzins and other religious leaders.
"If these works are implemented, working people of the country will directly benefit," the Prime Minister said.
Regarding economy and employment, Tarique Rahman said, "We have started communication with various countries to create employment opportunities abroad for the youth of the country at low cost. InshaAllah, you will receive good news soon".
Besides, he said, the government has restarted the famous 'canal excavation programme' of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman across the country.
"We have a plan to excavate 20,000 kilometers of canals in the next five years so that farmers' crops are protected and there is no shortage of water during the dry season," the premier added.
"We always say whatever we do, we will do transparently, there is no secrecy. In democracy, differences of opinion will exist, but our goal is the development of the people of the country," the Prime Minister said.
