DHAKA, Apr 12, 2026 (BSS) - The government has chalked out an elaborate programme to celebrate ‘Pahela Baishakh’, the Bangla New Year-1433) on April 14. 
 
On the occasion, the national dailies will publish special supplement while Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and private TV channels will air special programmes.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will give separate messages marking the auspicious occasion. 

Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS) and ‘Chhayanaut’ will organise a cultural event at Ramna Batamul in the morning of April 14.
 
The “Bangla Noboborsho (New Year) programme” will begin with the rendition of the national anthem and the song 'Eso He Baishakh…Eso Eso”.

Like the previous years, the students and teachers of the faculty of fine arts of Dhaka University (DU) will bring out a 'Baishakhi Procession” in the morning of “Pahela Baishakh”.

This year's theme of the procession is—“Noboborsher Oykotan, Gonotantrer Punuruthan (New Year's harmony, democracy’s reemergence)”. 

Besides, Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and private media channels will air the programs live, said a press release here.

On the occasion, Bangla Academy and Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation will organise a 7-day Baishakhi fair and discussion meetings on the premises of Bangla Academy from April 14 to April 20.
 
Bangladesh Folk and Crafts Foundation will arrange a 14-day traditional “Baishakh Fair” on its premises beginning from April 20.

Besides, steps have been taken to provide traditional foods in all prisons, hospitals and shishu paribars while cultural programmes will be organised with children from shishu paribars. 

All museums and archeological sites will remain open for all on the day. Children and adolescents, students, disabled and children with special needs will have the opportunity to enter these venues without tickets.

“Baishakhi Shobhajatra” and cultural programmes will be organised at district and upazila levels on the first day of Baishakh. 

Cultural programmes, folk fairs and essay competitions for students will be organised in the district towns and all upazilas to celebrate the Bangla New Year. 

In addition, the upazila administration will take necessary measures to celebrate the Bangla New Year by organising 'Boishakhi Shobhajatra' in each union.

All educational institutions will celebrate the Bangla New Year in a festive atmosphere under their own management. 

Various departments of the ministry of Cultural Affairs/cultural institutes/centres/academies of small ethnic groups will arrange programmes under their own management.

Special programmes will be organised and traditional food will be served in the city’s posh hotels and clubs on the occasion of Bangla New Year. 

Law enforcement agencies will ensure overall security in programmes to be organised at national, district and upazila levels.
