DHAKA, March 24, 2026 (BSS) – The first meeting of the Special Committee formed by the Jatiya Sangsad was held today at the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the city.
Chairman of the committee Jainal Abedin MP chaired the meeting.
Key attendees included Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, MP; Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam, MP; Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman, MP; Dr. Muhammad Osman Faruk, MP; A.M. Mahbub Uddin, MP; State Minister for Public Administration Md. Abdul Bari, MP; Muhammad Nowakshi Jamir, MP; State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin, MP; Md. Mujibur Rahman, MP; Md. Rafiqul Islam Khan, MP; and G.M. Nazrul Islam, MP.
At the start of the session, a one-minute silence and a prayer were observed to seek salvation for the souls of the student-people martyrs of the July 2024 mass uprising.
The committee held detailed discussions on a wide range of ordinances issued during the tenure of the interim government. These included, among others Anti-Corruption Commission (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025; Special Security Force (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024; Security of Family Members of the Father of the Nation (Repeal) Ordinance, 2024; Maximum age limit for direct recruitment in government and autonomous bodies (2024 and 2025); Enforced Disappearance Prevention and Redress Ordinance (2025 and 2026); July Mass Uprising (Protection and Compensation) Ordinance, 2026; and July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum Ordinance, 2025.
The committee also discussed ordinances regarding Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, and various regional development authorities (Barishal, Mymensingh, Rangpur); and amendments related to the Police Commission, Anti-Terrorism, Human Trafficking, Forest Conservation, and various national institutes.
The committee has decided to examine the necessity and appropriateness of these ordinances and will submit a formal report to the Jatiya Sangsad session at the earliest opportunity. It was also resolved that the committee would continue reviewing and discussing the remaining ordinances in its next meeting.
Senior officials of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat and the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, among others, were also present during the meeting.
