DHAKA, March 24, 2026 (BSS) – Food, Fisheries and Livestock, and Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid today said that agriculture will serve as the primary driving force of the national economy.

“The government has adopted a comprehensive and integrated action plan to establish agriculture as the nation's economic cornerstone,” he said while speaking as the chief guest during an exchange of greetings with officials and employees of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Food following the Eid holidays at secretariat in the city, said a press release.

In his speech, the Minister underscored the sector's pivotal role in national development and outlined the government's transformative vision for economic growth.

To facilitate this transformation, he said that the agricultural sector is undergoing a significant restructuring aimed at strengthening the rural economy, which remains the fundamental base of the country’s financial stability.

As part of the government’s priority programs to support local producers, the Minister announced that ‘Farmer Cards’ will be distributed to ensure essential resources reach the grassroots level.

He issued a directive to all officials and employees of the departments under his ministries to discharge their duties with the utmost honesty and diligence, ensuring the effective delivery of these priority services.

Assessing the nation's agricultural potential, the Minister maintained that Bangladesh’s geography and environment are exceptionally favorable for cultivation compared to any other country in the world.

He asserted that through the adoption of scientific cultivation methods, the nation can achieve food production levels that significantly exceed total national demand.

Identifying food security as the most critical challenge in the coming years, the Minister called for a unified and sincere approach from the officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Food to address future demands.

He emphasized that the state is duty-bound to ensure balanced nutrition for the next generation.

"We are committed to meeting the balanced nutritional needs of the people and leaving a beautiful country for the next generation. I urge everyone to work with honesty, sincerity, and dedication from their respective positions to fulfill this duty," he added.

During the event, Agriculture Adviser Nazrul Islam Khan addressed the gathering, emphasizing that advancing the sector requires a combination of technical skill, integrity, and dedication.

He announced a forthcoming nationwide tree-planting initiative, stating that the government aims to transform tree planting into a widespread social movement.

This national greening effort is essential to building climate resilience and combating the adverse impacts of climate change across the country, he added.
