PM takes responsibility for treatment of child survivor of Bogura road accident

DHAKA, Mar 18, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has taken responsibility for the treatment of a critically injured child who survived a tragic road accident at Sherpur in Bogura district, in which four members of the same family were killed, this morning.

The Prime Minister expressed deep shock and sympathy over the incident and took all responsibility to ensure advanced treatment of the critically injured one-and-a-half-year-old girl, who miraculously survived the tragic accident, Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman confirmed the matter today.

He said the child was being transferred to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in the city’s Agargaon area for advanced treatment.

Ruman said that the Prime Minister personally spoke with the Deputy Commissioner of Bogura and the director of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital and instructed them to ensure the highest level of treatment for the injured people.

Tarique Rahman also spoke with authorities at the Neurosciences Hospital in the capital and directed them to provide maximum care to the child.

The Prime Minister has also taken full responsibility for all kinds of treatment costs.

The accident occurred in the Sherpur area of Bogura when a microbus carrying 12 passengers was heading to Rangpur from Dhaka.

One person died on the spot. When the injured people were taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, duty doctors declared three more people, including the child’s parents, dead.

Bogura Deputy Commissioner said the bodies have been taken to Kaunia in Rangpur, where the victims will be laid to eternal rest.

The family along with relatives was traveling to their village home at Kaunia in Rangpur to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.
