Milon stresses stronger UNESCO cooperation to improve quality of education

DHAKA, March 8, 2026 (BSS) - Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today stressed the need to strengthen cooperation with UNESCO to improve the overall quality of education in Bangladesh.

He made the remark during a meeting with UNESCO Representative in Bangladesh Dr. Susan Vize at the Bangladesh Secretariat here.

During the meeting, both sides emphasised enhancing mutual cooperation to improve the overall standard of education, prevent student dropout and ensure quality education in the country. They also discussed issues related to implementing a compulsory unified education system and improving the quality of education.

The discussion highlighted the importance of protecting students' mental health, improving teachers' skills and standards to ensure quality education and increasing the effectiveness of the education system.

The education minister, at the meeting, expressed hope for closer collaboration with development partners. "We will review the ongoing projects aimed at improving the quality of education. Our goal is not only to spend funds but also to ensure their effectiveness and usefulness," he said.

He also said initiatives would be taken to review the existing curriculum to make the country's education system more time-befitting.

The meeting also discussed ways to remove administrative complexities and bureaucratic delays. When UNESCO representatives sought cooperation in this regard, the minister invited them to contact him directly and assured of taking prompt and effective measures.

Education Secretary Abdul Khaleque and senior officials of the Secondary and Higher Education Division were present at the meeting.
