DHAKA, Feb 25, 2026 (BSS) - Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has called on Chinese investors to expand their investment footprint in Bangladesh, underscoring the long-standing friendship and strategic partnership between the two countries.

The call came during a courtesy meeting between the minister and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen at Home Ministry office in the Bangladesh Secretariat here today, according to a press release of the ministry.

Describing China as one of Bangladesh’s largest development partners, the minister said the two nations are “time-tested friends” and stressed the importance of elevating bilateral ties to a new level, considering the regional, strategic and geographical significance of both countries.

He noted that China has invested in several major development projects in Bangladesh and urged further investment in the near future.

Ambassador Yao Wen said that with a politically stable government now in place in Bangladesh, Chinese investment is expected to increase further.

He mentioned that around 10,000 Chinese nationals are currently working in various sectors across Bangladesh.

Highlighting the link between development and security, the ambassador emphasized the need to strengthen law and order to attract more foreign investment.

In response, the Home Minister said maintaining law and order and ensuring stability remains the top priority of the government elected by the people’s mandate.

During the meeting, the Chinese envoy also requested Bangladesh to join the “International Alliance Combating Telecom and Cyber Fraud,” an initiative of China’s Ministry of Public Security. He said a formal proposal has already been sent through appropriate channels.

The minister directed relevant officials to review the Memorandum of Understanding on the “Plan of Action on Law Enforcement Training Cooperation” between the two countries, which expired in 2023.

He also informed the ambassador of his intention to visit China at a mutually convenient time.

The two sides discussed a range of issues of mutual interest, including security, law and order, cybercrime suppression, police training cooperation, expansion of trade and commerce, and strengthening overall bilateral relations.

At the outset of the meeting, Ambassador Yao conveyed floral greetings and congratulations to the newly appointed Home Minister on behalf of China’s Minister of Public Security and extended an invitation for him to visit China in September this year.

The meeting was attended by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Manzur Morshed Chowdhury, along with other relevant officials from the ministry and representatives of the Chinese Embassy.
