DHAKA, Feb 23, 2026 (BSS) - Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today warned that immediate action will be taken against anyone who illegally interferes in police duties, stressing that obstruction of lawful police work will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He made the remarks at a briefing held at the Home Ministry conference room at the Secretariat today following an exchange of views with the heads of various departments and organizations under the ministry.

The Home Minister said that no individual or group - whether political or social - has the right to obstruct the legitimate work of the police.

"Police work cannot be illegally obstructed or interfered with," he said, adding that strict measures will be taken against any such attempts.

At the same time, he underscored the importance of ensuring accountability within the police force.

He said police activities will be closely monitored to prevent any form of harassment to the public.

"Accountability of the police will also be ensured so that people do not suffer," he added.

Referring to the previous regime, the minister said that during what he described as a "fascist era," not only the police but nearly all state institutions suffered damage.

He emphasized that the country now needs to rebuild and move forward in line with public expectations following the mass uprising.

"We have to recover from the rubble and work according to the hopes and aspirations that have emerged among the people in the post-mass uprising period," he said.

Salahuddin Ahmed further said he plans to visit various departments under the ministry to motivate officials, boost their morale, and provide guidance.

"We must move forward with our eyes on the future, not looking back," he said.
