DHAKA, Feb 22, 2026 (BSS)- Liberation War Affairs Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram has said the great Liberation War is the fundamental basis of Bangladesh’s freedom. 

“It would not be appropriate to equate any other movement or struggle with the Liberation War. We must always remember that the sole foundation of the birth of this state is the great Liberation War,” he said.

The minister said this while exchanging views with members of the Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (JAMUKA) at the conference room of the ministry here today.

Expressing concern over the political misuse of the spirit of the Liberation War, Hafiz Uddin said, “For a long time, the history and spirit of the Liberation War have been misused to such an extent that the younger generation has been deprived of knowing the true history.”

The minister urged all to uphold the unique dignity of the Liberation War.

“Many of our new generation are unaware of the immense sacrifices and sufferings through which the freedom fighters secured Bangladesh’s independence,” he added.

The meeting adopted several important decisions regarding the verification of the list of genuine freedom fighters and preservation of the authentic history of the Liberation War.

Liberation War Affairs Secretary Israt Chowdhury, members of Jamuka and senior officials of the ministry were present.
