THAKURGAON, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS): Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain, Adviser to the Ministries of Shipping, Labor and Employment today urged the  people of the country  to vote ‘Yes’ aimed at building a democratic environment.

“If any party is campaigning against the yes vote, then it should be understood that they are betraying the blood of this country." he said while responding to questions of journalists after  a  meeting organized as part  of the referendum campaign as chief guest  at the Mirza Ruhul Amin Auditorium  here this afternoon.

He said so many people lost their lives in the mass uprising. Students were killed and their bodies were burned. I don't know if such barbarity has happened in any other country. That's why we don't want that place anymore. We don't want these incidents to be repeated by those who come to power, he added.

Regarding the rise in commodity prices, the adviser said, many mafias are no more. Although there was a fear of an increase in the prices of various commodities last Ramadan, we did not let that happen. We are working from our place.

The adviser said, "There should be good factories in North Bengal.  We will make some recommendations for the next government so that there is a balanced distribution across the country. No district or upazila should be neglected or left behind." Shakhawat  said.
