DHAKA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) - Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan today said the government is taking all possible measures to resolve the ongoing gas crisis and ensure that consumers are no longer held hostage by shortages.

He made the remarks on his personal Facebook account while addressing the circulation of a fake photo card on social media.

The adviser noted that around 98 percent of the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) business in the country is operated by the private sector, which handles import, storage, bottling and marketing. The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) sets the price, while the Energy Division's role remains limited, he said.

"Currently, LPG is not imported by the public sector, but the government is reviewing the feasibility of public-sector imports," he added. 

The adviser said that if the public sector begins importing LPG, it will help stabilize the market and resolve the crisis, ensuring that consumers are no longer held hostage.

He clarified that even if the government imports LPG, it will not be directly involved in storage, bottling or distribution.

The adviser expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to consumers and assured that the government is actively working to improve the situation.
