DHAKA, Jan 9, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman today became the Chairman of the party.

Tarique Rahman was unanimously appointed Chairman to fill the vacant post, in line with the party's constitution. With this appointment, he officially took over the responsibilities of the party's top leadership position, according to the BNP Media Cell.

The Chairman's post fell vacant following the demise of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. In this connection, a meeting of the party's National Standing Committee was convened in accordance with BNP's constitution.

Tarique Rahman presided over the meeting, which was attended by all members of the standing committee.
