DHAKA, Jan 04, 2026 (BSS)- As there is no crisis of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in the country, the energy ministry today asked local administration to take action against those responsible for artificial crisis.
“The district and upazila administrations were asked to operate mobile courts to normalize the situation,” according to a ministry press release.
The government hoped that the price of LPG will normalize soon through the cautionary measures, it said.
In the backdrop of high price of LPG at retail level, energy adviser held an emergency meeting with officers and reviewed the situation in detail.
Another meeting was held in the ministry between the leaders of the LPG Owners Association and LPG operators with energy secretary in the chair.
The meeting discussed the ongoing LPG crisis in details. LPG association leaders and importers in the meeting said that retailers created the crisis taking advantage of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission’s re-fixing LPG price this month, it said.
“There is sufficient stock of LPG gas in the country. Local retailers have created an artificial crisis in the market,” the release said.
It said that import volume of LPG in November 2025 was 1.05 lakh metric tons, while 1.27 lakh metric tons was imported in December 2025.
“So, despite the increase in imports, there is no logic of supply shortage in the market,” the release said.
It said the government has already taken initiatives to resolve some demands raised by the association.
In the meeting also decided that the LPG Operators Association will issue a statement today regarding the artificial crisis.
