DHAKA, Jan 4, 2026 (BSS) - Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has called on all members of the police force to perform their election-related duties with the highest standards of responsibility, integrity and professionalism.
"Every police member deployed in the field during elections will represent the trust of the people. The police must act in a neutral manner," he said.
He made the remarks on Sunday afternoon while inspecting a training workshop at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Training Academy in Rajarbagh, aimed at enhancing the efficiency and capacity of police personnel in election duties.
During the inspection, the adviser provided directives on police responsibilities during the pre-election, election-day and post-election periods.
Emphasizing the importance of national elections, the Home Adviser said that conducting elections is a major state responsibility and that the role of the police is crucial in ensuring a fair and peaceful process.
He also noted that the government is taking comprehensive preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming 13th national parliament elections.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali, Additional IGP (Development) of Police Headquarters Sardar Nurul Amin, and Additional Police Commissioner (Admin) of DMP Md. Sarwar were present during the inspection.
Senior officials of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police were also in attendance.
The inspection covered the 23rd batch of a three-day training workshop organized to strengthen police capacity and efficiency ahead of the 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum.
So far, 22 batches of the training have been completed, with 18,150 police personnel successfully trained. The programme aims to train a total of 24,342 personnel through 28 batches at 19 venues across the DMP area.
