RANGPUR, Dec 26, 2025 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) member-secretary Akhter Hossen has said that if the murderers are arrested and proper punishment is ensured, then no one, including politicians, will need gunmen.

"If the murderers commit crimes and get away with it, then the politicians will be insecure. Therefore, it is not possible to ensure security by gunmen alone without arresting and prosecuting the murderers," he said. 

He said this while talking to local reporters at the '36 July Memorial Square' in front of the Public Library ground of Rangpur city on Thursday afternoon. 

Earlier, Akhter Hossen reached Rangpur to participate in election campaigning and party activities in his Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha-Kawnia) constituency. 

Later, he came to the '36 July Memorial Square' in the city and met with the party leaders and activists. 

Akhter Hossen said that a database of the country's criminals and murderers needs to be created. This database will act as a real security ring for everyone. 

If the murderers will roam around outside and we will roam around with gunmen, this cannot ensure security in any way. If the murderers are arrested and proper punishment is ensured, then no gunmen are needed.

He said, 'If Bangladesh has to be protected and an environment has to be created for a peaceful transfer of power, then the law and order situation must be improved.' 

The government will have to work to ensure people's participation in the elections with peace and order. 

The NCP member-secretary said that the law enforcement agencies are not able to give a clear message about whether those involved in the murder of Shaheed Osman Hadi Bhai are hiding inside the country or have fled to India. 

"We want the gang behind Osman Hadi's murder to be found and punished as soon as possible. The murderer is known, and everything is public, it is not possible for him to kill and escape alone or hide. A big gang is working here," he said. 

If the murderers are brought to justice and exemplary punishment is ensured for them, then all the people of the country will be safe. The law and order situation in the country will improve. 

He said, "There are attempts to obstruct the elections in various ways. We want the murder of Shaheed Osman Hadi Bhai to be tried and the murderers to be arrested. We want the government to ensure that such murders do not happen again." 

The NCP member-secretary said that the ousted Awami League and their allies are trying to destabilize the country. It was possible to bring the Awami League's allies under the law after the mass uprising.

At this time, NCP Rangpur District Committee Convener Md Al Mamun, Metropolitan member-secretary Abdul Malek, District joint conveners Alamgir Nayan and Abu Raihan, Rangpur-4 Constituency Election Steering Committee Chief Coordinator Abdullah-Al Mamun and NCP leader Toufiq Islam, among others, were present.
