ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY, KUSHTIA, Dec 16, 2025 (BSS) — The 55th Victory Day was celebrated at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia to pay homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives during the 1971 Liberation War.
The day began with the hoisting of the national flag by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah and the university flag by Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. Yeaqub Ali in front of the administrative building at 10:00 am.
Later, a colourful procession was brought out, led by VC Dr. Nasrullah and followed by a balloon release. The rally paraded throughout the main roads of the campus, with Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. M. Yeaqub Ali, Treasurer Professor Dr. Jahangir Alam, Acting Registrar Professor Dr. Manjurul Haque, along with teachers, students, officials, and staff participating joyfully.
Concluding the parade at ‘Mukto Bangla’, university authorities, Zia Parishad, UTAB, Students Against Discrimination, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal IU unit, Chhatra Union IU unit, residential halls, different departments, officers’ organizations, Islamic University Journalists’ Association, and other cultural organisations placed floral wreaths to show gratitude to the martyrs of 1971. A moment of silence was observed, and a prayer was offered for the martyred after the wreath-laying ceremony.
The programme concluded with the laying of a floral wreath at the university’s Foundation Stone in remembrance of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
The authorities also organized a friendly match between teachers, officers, staff, and residential hall teams to mark the Victory Day.
Earlier in the morning, residential halls hoisted the national flag and hall flags.
