Sakhawat mourns death of UN peacekeepers

DHAKA, Dec 15, 2025 (BSS) - Shipping Adviser Brig General (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain has expressed profound grief over the recent tragic death of six Bangladesh Army peacekeepers in Sudan.

In a condolence message issued today, Dr Sakhawat said Bangladeshi peacekeepers have long played a vital role in safeguarding global peace and stability.

He also voiced deep concern over the brutal attack on the peacekeepers serving under the UN mission.

The adviser noted that Bangladesh’s peacekeepers have always set unique examples of courage, professionalism and dedication in establishing world peace.

He said the death of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers while on duty in Sudan is a matter of profound grief for the nation.

The sacrifice of the brave army members, who were engaged in serving world peace and humanity, is an irreparable loss for the country, he said.

The Shipping Adviser prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. 

At the same time, he wished speedy recovery of the eight injured Bangladeshi peacekeepers.

He also urged all concerned parties to take effective measures to immediately stop the ongoing violence in Sudan.

Six Bangladeshi in UN mission were killed and eight others seriously injured in an attack of rebels in Abyei area of Sudan on December 13 last.
