DHAKA, Dec 11, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin today pledged to hold a free, fair, and beautiful election which will fulfil the nation’s expectations and enhance the country’s image on the world stage.

He made this pledge in his televised address to the nation this evening while announcing the schedule for the 13th national election and referendum on the July National Charter.

“As a nation, our irresistible strength is our love and sacrifice for independence, sovereignty, and democracy. Embracing the expectations of the nation, our Constitution guarantees the absolute ownership of the state by the people,” said the CEC.

He said the only path to establishing representative ownership of the people is through elections.

“It is unfortunate that the absence of quality elections has frequently dimmed our traditions and collective aspirations. In such a context, the mass uprising of 2024 took place,” he said.

The CEC added: “Standing on the blood of our brothers, sisters, and children, our pledge is to hold a free and beautiful election that will fulfil our expectations as a nation and brighten our image in the global arena. I firmly believe that you hold the same expectations and are committed to the same pledge.”

The CEC paid his tributes to the memories of the martyrs of the student-led mass uprising of July–August 2024 and prayed for the eternal peace of their departed souls.

From the Great Liberation War to the 2024 student mass uprising, he offered his heartfelt sympathy to all who were injured, tortured, or affected in all movements to establish and safeguard the country’s sovereignty and democracy.

He also wished quick recovery of the injured and their return to normal life.
