DHAKA, Oct 7, 2025 (BSS) - If any person is formally charged by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), he or she will no longer be able to hold the post of Member of Parliament (MP) or be elected.
In addition, such an accused will be considered ineligible for government jobs or other government positions, said a notification issued by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, on Monday.
The notification further clarified that the accused person would not only lose the eligibility to be elected or appointed as an MP but also as a member, commissioner, chairman, mayor or administrator of local government bodies.
However, there is a safeguard in the law. If an accused is discharged or acquitted by the tribunal, then this provision of disqualification will not be applied to him or her.
