DHAKA, Sept 7, 2025 (BSS) - Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen Soneya Murshid has called upon the media to create a place of trust for readers by ensuring the delivery of reliable, objective and truthful news.

"In the practice of healthy journalism, the reader expects objectivity. Unfortunately, there is a growing trend of yellow journalism in the country," she said.

The adviser made the remarks while addressing a discussion and reception ceremony marking the fourth founding anniversary of the Daily Oishi Bangla at the BMA Auditorium in the capital on Saturday.

Praising activities of the Daily Oishi Bangla, she said: "Oishi Bangla must uphold the truth and completely boycott yellow journalism."

Describing the media as a mirror of society, the adviser emphasized that responsible journalism can play a significant role in rebuilding trust in institutions and promoting democratic values.

Referring to the mass uprising of 2024, she said it was not only a movement that overthrew the former fascist Hasina regime but also a collective effort to cleanse the accumulated debris of misgovernance over the past 50 years.

Murshid noted that the country is now passing through a critical transitional phase.

She said the interim government is progressing towards holding a peaceful, participatory national election with the cooperation of all stakeholders.

Eminent personalities from various sectors were present at the event and were honored for their contributions to society.
