DHAKA, Aug 14, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today said Bangladeshi workers will now get the same social security benefits in Malaysia that Malaysian workers get from their country. 

Besides, many go to Malaysia with weaknesses in English or many cannot learn Malay very easily, so the issue of filing complaints in Bengali was discussed during the Chief Adviser's visit, he said. 

He revealed this information at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy here.

Regarding the Chief Adviser's visit to Malaysia, the Press Secretary said, "It was a very fruitful visit. We would say it was a landmark tour. As a result, the good relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia have been strengthened."

He said the issues of the welfare of workers were discussed with the Malaysian Prime Minister. 

"We had some progress on this. The Expatriates’ Welfare Adviser informed the meeting about legalising illegal or undocumented workers in Malaysia."

In addition, he said, they talked about recruiting security guards and caregivers in Malaysia from Bangladesh. 

"We hope to see progress on this issue in the future. At the same time, the 'Graduate Plus' programme was talked about to provide work opportunities to Bangladeshi students in Malaysia. They have said that they will work on it," he said. 

Alam said Bangladesh will sign a free trade agreement with Malaysia very soon. 

"We import food and other products worth US$3 billion from Malaysia. We will discuss FTA very soon so that trade between us accelerates further. We are already discussing FTAs with Japan and Singapore," he said.
