KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today expressed optimism that more Bangladeshis would get job opportunities in the Malaysian labour market.

He made the remarks at a joint press conference here on the second day of his visit to Malaysia after a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the signing of five memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and three exchange of notes between the two countries.

The press conference was held at the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya.

Mentioning that a large number of Bangladeshi workers are currently working in Malaysia, Prof Yunus said the money send by the workers to the country helps their family members live, their children study and get a good education.

"We hope that this door will remain open for Bangladesh and more young people from Bangladesh will get the opportunity to work here," he said.

Expressing gratitude to Malaysia for giving Bangladeshi workers the opportunity to job, the Chief Adviser said the Malaysian people treat Bangladeshi workers as family members and friends and they are very happy with this.

"Apart from earning money, they learn a lot from here, which will help them set up their own businesses after returning home," he said.

Urging Malaysian businessmen to invest in Bangladesh, Prof Yunus said: "We want to develop Bangladesh as a manufacturing hub. You should invest in Bangladesh and bring technology. You can use our human resources to produce products and export them abroad."

He mentioned that Bangladesh has been made open for investment and business aiming to build a sustainable economy.

Referring to the July uprising 2024, the Chief Adviser said last year, students took to the streets against the dictatorship and the autocrat was fallen in the face of the movement.

"We were looking for cooperation to restore stability in a ruined country after taking charge of the new government and then Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stood by us like a friend. He gave us strength," he said.

Stating that Bangladesh is determined to ensure the right path, Prof Yunus said they have been able to restore order and have restored the economy in the country.

"The institutions that were ruined have been made functional again. That's why we are able to prepare for the elections after a year," he said, adding that the national polls will be held in February next year.

The Chief Advisor sought Malaysia's cooperation for resolving the Rohingya crisis and obtaining ASEAN membership.

At the press conference, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim hoped that the excellent relations between the two countries would be helpful in improving the fate of the people of both countries.
