SAVAR, Aug 10, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today said the next parliamentary election to be held in 2026 would be the most free, fair, and festive manner in the country's history.
Referring to the labourers, who sacrificed their lives in the 2024 July Uprising, he said workers have made the supreme sacrifice for a democratic state, the rights to vote and the establishment of justice.
The press secretary said this at the closing ceremony of a two-week-long gala programme marking the anniversary of the historic July Uprising at Manarat International University (MIU) at Khagan in Ashulia here.
Shafiqul Alam further said that the workers had given their lives to secure people's rights and shed blood against monarchy.
"We were once slaves of that monarchy, but today we are free from it. Please, cast your vote for the candidate of your choice, and choose those who stood united with the movement of the martyrs," he stated.
Noting that the martyrs gave their last drop of blood for the establishment of justice, the press secretary said, "We are working towards that same goal. Many say we are working in a slow motion or our works are not being done properly. (But) we would say - we are doing exactly what is necessary for establishing the justice."
Earlier, he inaugurated a Chattar (square) and a library named after two university students who embraced martyrdom in the July Uprising, launched a tree plantation programme, attended a discussion meeting, cultural events and distributed prizes among the winners in different competitions.
MIU Board of Trustees Chairman Mohammad Fazlur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Abdur Rob, Board of Trustees member and Supreme Court lawyer Md Matiur Rahman Akand and prominent activist and top July fighter Abu Sadik Kayem were present on the occasions, among others.
