Strengthening coordination between law enforcers and civil administration stressed

DHAKA, July 28, 2025 (BSS) - A review meeting on the law and order situation and the preparations of law enforcement agencies for the upcoming national elections was held today, emphasising on increasing coordination among the police, army and civil administration.

The meeting was held at the State Guest House Jamuna here with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus in the chair.

After the meeting, at a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said: "It has been repeatedly emphasised to increase coordination between the police-army and civil administration regarding the preparations for the elections".

 The coordination should be ensured at both local and national levels, he said, adding coordination must be strengthened very quickly at both levels.

Referring to the plan to set up a National Information Centre to prevent misinformation, Alam said a lot of misinformation has already being spread and it will increase further in the future. 

"In this situation, the idea of setting up a National Information Center is being considered - where we can identify misinformation very quickly," he said, adding a detailed discussion to this end was held at the meeting.

Chief Adviser Prof Yunus has instructed the law enforcement agencies to quickly identify the areas, that may be risky during polls, before the elections, Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar said. 

He said the Chief Adviser has also instructed the law enforcing agencies to give advice on what additional measures are needed to maintain the law and order there.

Azad said the law enforcement agencies working at the district level have been asked to assess the situation at the field level through coordination and send a report to the centre so that the senior officials of the government can understand the situation at the field level and take steps accordingly. 

He said there was a discussion on the change in administration during the election and mentioned that some decisions have been taken in this regard.

The meeting reviewed the overall law and order situation in the country and discussed in detail the preparations for the polls. 

The Home Adviser, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, Home Secretary, IGP and representatives of various law enforcing agencies were present at the meeting.
