DHAKA, July 25, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman today expressed their deep sympathy to the family members of Flight Lieutenant Towkir Islam, the pilot of the ill-fated fighter jet that crashed onto the Milestone School and College premises in Uttara on July 21, killing the navigator and 32 others so far.
A BNP delegation led by party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir visited Towkir's residence at Dhaka Cantonment this afternoon and conveyed messages of condolence from the party chief and acting chairman to the bereaved family.
The delegation spoke to Towkir's widow Aksha Ahammed Nijhum, his father-in-law, and other family members, offering words of comfort in their time of profound grief.
BNP vice-chairman Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Major General (Retd) Fazle Elahi Akbar, and Brigadier General (Retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam were also present during the visit.
Earlier on July 21, a Bangladesh Air Force FT-7BGI fighter jet crashed into a two-storey building of Milestone School and College at Uttara minutes after takeoff around 1pm due to a reported mechanical failure.
