NATORE, June 10, 2025 (BSS) - Commerce Adviser Sk. Bashir Uddin today said that rawhides of sacrificial animals during this Holy Eid ul Azha are being sold at the highest rate this time compared to the last 10 years.
He said it has been possible due to the free distribution of salt and motivating people and thus enhancing the capacity.
The Commerce Adviser said this while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with the district rawhides traders group at Chakbaiddyanath in the district.
He said that apart from fixing earlier the price of rawhides of sacrificial animals, the government has also provided salt to the Madrasahs and Orphanages free of cost to preserve the rawhides.
"Our goal was that if the rawhides in these institutions are preserved with salt, then there will be a balance between the demand and supply," he added.
Bashir mentioned that in order to enhance the capacity in buying and selling of rawhides, the government has distributed leaflets incorporating the concerned policies while mass awareness was created through the religious leaders in mosques.
He said that the government has provided some 7.50 lakh maunds of salt free of cost to the Madrasahs and orphanages for the first time in the country to preserve the rawhides.
The Commerce Adviser said that with the concerted efforts from all, a new culture has been developed in the country in the rawhides trading sector while more outcomes are expected in the next year.
Rawhides Trading Group President Sayedar Khan and General Secretary Halim Uddin spoke at the view exchange meeting.
Natore Police Super M Amzad Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioners M Arif Hossain and M Abul Hayat, Natore Sadar UNO Akhter Jahan Sathi were present, among others.
Later, the Commerce Adviser inspected the operations of preserving rawhides with salt at a Madrasah that received free salt from government at Chakbaiddyanath area and thus expressed his satisfaction.
