DHAKA, May 21, 2025 (BSS) - National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman today said Bangladesh cannot afford another influx of Rohingyas, asking Arakan Army to ensure no further displacement of Rohingyas inside Rakhine state.

“Bangladesh doesn’t want another influx of refugees. It simply can’t afford this,” he told a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy here this afternoon.

Dr Khalilur, also the chief adviser’s high representative on Rohingya problem, said there has been sizeable influx of Rohingyas from Rakhine during intensified conflict between the Arakan Army and Myanmar forces from 2023 until autumn of 2024.

“Rohingyas have continued to enter Bangladesh thereafter, albeit in smaller number,” he said.
The security adviser said Bangladesh is coordinating with the relevant actors to prevent another wave of refugees into Bangladesh.

“In particular, the Bangladesh government has signaled to the Arakan Army that they must ensure that there is no further violence, discrimination and displacement of Rohingyas inside Rakhine,” he said.

Dr Khalilur said the Arakan Army has the responsibility to follow the international laws, including international humanitarian law.

“And the world is watching. Bangladesh's continued contacts with them will depend upon their action in this area, as well as on Rohingya representation,” he added.

Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir also present at the press briefing.
