High-level committee formed to ensure smooth observance of Eid-ul-Azha

DHAKA, May 16, 2025 (BSS) - The interim government has formed a high-level committee to ensure fair pricing of the hides of sacrificial animals and smooth coordination of all activities related to the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.

The committee has been entrusted with ensuring proper collection and preservation of animal hides, maintaining an adequate supply of salt, setting fair prices for hides, and overseeing overall management of sacrificial activities.

The committee was formed through a gazette issued by the Cabinet Division on Tuesday.

Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin was made convener of the body, while other members of the committee are advisers on home affairs, industries, road transport and bridges, environment, forest and climate change, local government, fisheries and livestock, religious affairs, and information and broadcasting.

The chief adviser's special assistant (home ministry), the executive chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), the chief adviser's press secretary, and the secretary of the Ministry of Industries have also been included in the committee.

In addition, the government will include representatives from NGOs, religious institutions, and the private sector.

The commerce secretary will act as the member secretary.

It will also protect the financial interests of religious institutions regarding earnings from hide sales, issue guidelines for cattle market operations, regulate smooth transportation of animals, and prepare action plans for swift and proper waste disposal across the country, including at the Savar Leather Industrial Park.

The Ministry of Commerce will provide secretarial support, while the committee will have the authority to co-opt additional members as necessary.

The committee will come into effect immediately.
