NARAYANGANJ, May 3, 2025(BSS) - Food Adviser Ali Imam Majumder today said that smart cards will be given to the farmers after cancelling the 'fake' TCB cards.
"The farmers would be encouraged if they get fair prices of the produced goods," he said while visiting the progress of the construction work of a silo and food godown at Bandar upazila of the district.
The price of rice in the country is becoming tolerable gradually but it should not reduce drastically, the adviser said, adding: "We have to give fair price of rice to the farmers."
There are many fake cards of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) in the country, Ali Imam Majumder said, adding that new smart cards would be given to the farmers after cancelling the fake cards.
The demand of wheat in the country is nearly 70 lakh metric tons but the country produces only 10 lakh metric tons, he said. "So, we have to import nearly 60 lakh metric tons but most of the importers are private importers," he added.
"We could be able to make a sustainable food stock in the country as the Boro production in this year is very good," Ali Imam Majumder said, adding that the government may increase the number of beneficiaries of the food related projects, if the production of other crops along with Boro paddy is satisfactory.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Zahidul Islam and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Narayanganj Prottus Kumar Majumder accompanied the adviser at that time.
