CHATTOGRAM, Nov 30, 2024 (BSS) – A total of 31 people and 10-15 unknown ones were sued over the murder of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif during a violent clash between the followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and police here on Tuesday.
Jamal Uddin, father of the slain lawyer, filled the case with Kotwali police early Saturday, ADC Kazi Tarek Aziz (PR) of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) told BSS.
Those, who were accused in the case are- Chandan, Aman Das, Shuvo Kanti Das, Bunja, Ranab, Bidhan, Bikash, Ramit, Rumit Das, Nayan Das, Gagan Das, Vishal Das, Omkar Das, Vishal, Rajkapur, Lala, Samir, Sohel Das, Shiv Kumar, Biglal, Parash, Ganesh, Om Das, Poppy, Ajay, Devi Charan, Dev, Joy, Durlav Das, Rajib Bhattacharya, and others.
All the accused have been residing in the Bandel Road Sebok Colony under Kotwali thana of the port city, police said.
Meanwhile, Khan Alam, elder brother of Saiful Islam Alif, filed another case accusing 115 people and 400-500 unidentified people for attacking and vandalizing court premises.
According to the statement filed by Jamal Uddin, the attackers -- some named in the FIR -- armed with weapons such as machetes, tridents, and cleavers carried out a premeditated attack on Saiful while chanting slogans for expelling ISKCON leader Chinmoy. Saiful was attacked on his way home.
The father further claimed that people affiliated with political organisations, including the Chhatra League, Jubo League, Awami League, and their associated groups, had either directly or indirectly instigated the murder.
Meanwhile, police have filed three cases against 79 named individuals and 1,400 unidentified people over the assault, vandalism, and obstruction of police during the clash.
Authorities have arrested 34 people, including nine suspects linked to Saifuls murder. The nine suspects were identified through video footage, according to police.
