Two JMB men arrested in Gazipur, Chattogram
DHAKA, Sept 27, 2023 (BSS) - The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police arrested two active members of the banned militant outfit 'Jamatul Mujahedin Bangladesh (JMB) from Gazipur and Chattogram during two separate drives on Tuesday.
The arrested were identified as M. Nurul Islam, 40, and M. Rasel, 37.
"The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police arrested Nurul during an overnight drive near Darul Akram Academy area under Tongi East Thana of Gazipur around 3 am. On the other hand, Rasel was arrested from Nasirabad Steel Mill area under Chattogram Pachlaish Thana area around 6pm on Tuesday," ATU Senior ASP Wahida Parveen told BSS.
According to ATU, Nurul was one of the nearest companions of JMB's current Ameer Salahuddin Salehin. He and his father and brothers were working for the banned militant outfit for more than two decades.
"An armed robbery case was filed against him in 2003 with Muktagacha Thana in Mymensingh district," she added.
The other detainee Rasel has been in-charge of the monetary management division of JMB Lalmonirhat sector since 2000. He was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment in an explosive case filed in 2008 with Dimla Thana in Nilphamari district.
"Necessary legal actions have been taken against them," the ATU official said
