Taposh for launching anti-dengue campaign in 'red -marked' areas

DHAKA, Aug 23, 2023 (BSS) - Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today said anti-dengue campaign will be launched in red-marked areas to prevent the spread of dengue disease in city corporation areas.

"If more than 10 patients' tests positive for dengue in a week in a specific ward, that ward will be declared 'red-marked' and a day-long special combing operation will be conducted in the area every Saturday by the cleanliness workers with the help of local people," Taposh said.

The DSCC mayor was speaking to the newsmen while visiting the special cleanliness campaign aimed at destroying the breeding grounds of Aedes mosquito in the areas adjacent to the Dhaka University Library, said a release.

"We have received more than 10 patients in the last week in wards 5, 22, 53 and 60 of Dhaka South City Corporation. We will conduct special operation in these four wards next Saturday. If we see more than ten patients in any other ward or multiple wards in a week in future, we will conduct this special campaign in those wards as well," Tapash said.

Urging the residents of the aforesaid wards to participate in the program, he said, "If the residents and owners of buildings and holdings are fully involved, our program will be successful. And right now, this is a big responsibility for all of us to fully eradicate dengue to protect our lives," the release added.

When asked about the plan to reduce the number of dengue patients in Dhaka, the DSCC Mayor said, "Controlling the spread of dengue during the peak season is very difficult, but we are working with sincere efforts. That's why we need the full cooperation and support of Dhaka residents. Our program today is aimed at increasing awareness of the city dwellers."

Later, Taposh inspected the interior of the Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque hall in Dhaka University campus area and gave necessary directions to the cleaners.

Councilor Mohammad Asaduzzaman Asad conducted the program.

General Secretary of the Dhaka University Teachers Association Prof Zeenat Huda, Proctor Prof Dr Maqsudur Rahman, Dean of Faculty of Arts Prof Dr Abdul Bachir, Provost of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall Prof Dr Md Abdur Rahim, DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Mizanur Rahman, Secretary Akramuzzaman, Chief Health Officer Dr Fazle Shamsul Kabir, Chief Waste Management Officer Md Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury were also present at that time, among others.
